Troup Clerk Record Duties

The clerk receives, manages, and processes court documents; collects and disburses court fees, fines, and costs; provides public access to court records; records deeds, mortgages, charters, and notaries public; and maintains the local court record system. The office supports Superior Court, State Court, and traffic case records, while Probate Court separately handles probate and marriage-license functions.

  • Maintain Superior Court civil, felony, domestic, divorce, and equity records.
  • Maintain State Court misdemeanor, traffic, ordinance, and civil records within that court's jurisdiction.
  • Record deeds, mortgages, trade names, charters, and notary documents.
  • Collect filing fees, copy fees, court costs, fines, and other mandated payments.
  • Provide calendar and docket access, with final verification through the clerk.

The clerk and deputy clerks cannot practice law. The clerk site warns that any help from staff should not be treated as legal advice, though staff may assist more freely in family violence matters.

Request Certified Troup Copies

Certified copies are court copies bearing the clerk's certification and seal. They are often needed for divorce decrees, judgments, name-change records, appeal records, lien matters, and other filings where an ordinary photocopy will not prove the record. The safest route is to identify the court, case number, party names, document title, and the number of certified copies before contacting the clerk.

  1. Identify the record type and court. Superior Court, State Court, traffic, deed, and notary records route differently inside the clerk's office.
  2. Gather the case number, party names, approximate filing year, document name, and whether certification or exemplification is required.
  3. Contact the clerk at 706-883-1740, visit Suite 1600, or mail a request to P.O. Box 866 with the required fee and return instructions.
  4. Use company check, cashier's check, or money order payable to Jackie W. Taylor, Clerk of Superior Court, when using the fee schedule payment route.
  5. Confirm whether the file includes sealed, redacted, juvenile, adoption, or protected personal data before assuming a complete public copy is available.

Troup Clerk Request Fields

The research did not locate a single universal online clerk copy-request form for every case type. A complete written request should still include the fields the office needs to locate the record and price the copy. County open-records requests through JustFOIA use a separate public-record workflow and email tracking, but court records may require clerk-specific handling.

The trade name registration form identifies Jackie W. Taylor as Clerk of Superior and State Courts and lists the office address and P.O. Box. It also says publication must run once a week for two weeks in the paper where sheriff advertisements are printed, identified as LaGrange Daily News.

Jury affidavits can be returned by mail to P.O. Box 866, LaGrange, GA 30241; by fax to 706-883-1724; in person at 100 Ridley Avenue; or by email to jury@troupcountyga.gov. That jury route is separate from ordinary certified-copy requests but still shows the clerk's supported filing channels.

Troup Clerk E-Filing

The clerk's e-filing page states that plat and UCC documents must be filed electronically through GSCCCA eFile. Troup Superior and State Courts also accept electronic filing for general civil and domestic relations cases through PeachCourt. The clerk website's staff directory is another assigned source. The Troup Clerk staff directory lists division-specific deputy clerks and contact paths.

Division-specific contacts are useful when a records request involves real estate, civil filing, traffic, jury, or a specialized clerk function.

Troup Traffic and DDS Records

The clerk handles traffic citation questions at 706-883-1725, but the state driver history is a different record. A traffic case file or payment record comes from State Court, municipal court, PayYourTix, or the clerk. A Georgia motor vehicle report comes from DDS and shows driver-history data such as license status, convictions reported to DDS, points, suspensions, and the requested driving-history period.

The assigned manifest source is the Georgia DDS Motor Vehicle Report portal.
